Puebla de los Infantes’ Road 12 km from Lora del Río. The pilgrimage is celebrated on September the 8th with a big party, during which a large part of the town participates in the procession of the Virgin. It is said that transfers of the image might be celebrated since the 16th century, but we only have news of the pilgrimage from the 19th century. Virgin bustles are made every seven years from the Hermitage, within no more than two years in Lora’s town.
If there are exceptional conditions the Virgin can descend before. One of these exceptional conditions is that the river does not bring enough water and the help of the Virgin is needed so that the flow of the Guadalquivir’s flow makes Lora’s fields fertile. In the surroundings you can see a good sample of the autochthonous Mediterranean nature (oaks, pines and scrub). There are also roads that enable you to enjoy the landscape of the area.
The Virgin of Setefilla is one of the most devotional images of the province of Seville. Lora del Río’s patron saint has a huge heritage of mantles and furnishings that have been offered by her devotees and Lora’s people for centuries. It is believed that the Virgin of Setefilla makes her parishioners’ prayers come true.
This tradition is not only followed by devoted people but also by those who go for the coexistence that takes place in the hermitage and to witness the process of taking the virgin in Lora del Río’s “Romería” .
